Reflection on the Middle East riots

The recent riots going on in the Middle East has it's news spread worldwide. Over the last few weeks we have heard about riots in Tunisia, Egypt, Lybia, Algeria, Bahrain and more, mostly powered by the disruptive role of social media like Twitter and Facebook, to the point that in many cases governments have been forced to block Internet access.

Today's joke: Electric shock

One day, John answered an urgent phone-call. When he hanged up, his wife asked: 'Honey, what just happened?

'My brother just got sent to the hospital'
'Really? What happened?'
Oh, my sister-in-law said he was holding a wire pole to shake off some little pebbles from his shoes.'
'Then what happened?'
'He got hit by a passer-by?'
'What?! How could it be possible?'
'He thought my brother got an electric shock, and still claims that he just saved my brother's life!'

Yesterday's joke: Balloons and clinics

A man was touring in a foreign country when he suddenly felt unwell. He was unsure about the local clinics and their service, and asked a passer-by for help.

The passer-by said: 'Don't worry. This country has a policy that if they failed to treat a patient and that he dies, they will have to hang a balloon above their roofs!'

The man, after thanking the passer-by, embarked to find a suitable clinic. He met one clinic with 21 balloons; then another one with 38 balloons; and another one with 32 balloons. At last, he found one with only 7 balloons. He went in to the clinic.

'You have to wait awhile,' said the nurse, 'business's just started today and the doctor is really busy now.'

Today, Arthur went to his friend's house to see his friend. When he came back, his wife was shocked.

Kate: My goodness! You look exhausted. You seemed as if you just ran some thirty miles!

Arthur: I don't care if I can save half a dollar.

Kate: Why? What happened?

Arthur: I ran here after a bus on my way home.

Kate thought for a while, and suddenly thought of something.

Kate: Why didn't you run after a taxi instead?

Arthur: Why?

Kate: Then you could've saved as least twenty dollars!!!

Dogs do NOT see in black-and-white.

Yes, dogs are partially colorblind, but that does not mean they do not see any color at all! Man’s best friend suffers from a kind of colorblindness that is called deuteranopia in humans. Both people and dogs have three different varieties of color receptors in their eyes: one for red, one for green, and one for blue. Deuteranopes, and similarly all canines, do not have the green color receptor and therefore cannot tell the difference between shades of green and other colors!

A type of tadpole can scream.

Tadpoles of the Argentine horned frog produce noise when in distress. These tadpoles have been known to eat the offspring of other frog species, so the ‘screams’ are thought to prevent them from devouring their own! This is the first time that scientists have observed any vertebrate larvae using sound to communicate underwater.
